Meet the Team Arthur Vanhove on Hubo Handbal's Hunger for More
Hubo Handbal won the Belgian Cup last season and are looking to take another step this year
Ahead of the new Coinmerce Super Handball League season, we caught up with Arthur Vanhove of Hubo Handbal to talk team spirit, what’s changed, and the taste for more after a historic year.
How would you describe the atmosphere within the team?
“Hubo is a tight-knit family club, and that shows in the first team too. We’re a close group who love having fun together, both on and off the court. To wrap up last season, we even went on a team trip to Mallorca. During training there’s a strong work ethic, but there’s alwaysplenty of laughing as well.”
What do you think is the team’s greatest strength this season?
“Most of the squad has stayed the same, so we can keep sharpening our combinations, which should make us stronger than last season. We already showed last year that this team has character: we turned around a big deficit to win more than once. I expect to see that samecharacter again this season.”
What’s changed within the team this year?
“Besides a few new players, who settled into the group quickly, we now have two new coaches. Each coach has their own approach, so that’s probably the biggest change for us.”
What are the team’s goals for this season?
“After bringing home the Belgian Cup (the first title in our young club’s history) last season, we’re hungry for more. We want to match what we did last season, and preferably do even a little better.”
What’s your team’s favourite pre-match ritual?
“We gather in the locker room and make as much noise as possible. Everyone pumps themselves up by banging hard on the walls, tables, doors… you name it.”
What would you personally like to achieve this season?
“At least one more title for Hubo Handbal, and if we can, one or two extra on top of that.”
